With the producers amazed that he has made it so far still in with a chance of winning the million, he is accused of cheating and sent to prison over night as they try to get a confession out of him.
Through his life, we see clips of his relationship with his brother, and childhood sweetheart, who he later meets again in the film.
The end of the film involves him winning the show, and in turn winning the prize money. He then meets Latika, his childhood sweetheart, and they kiss as the film ends.
Slumdog Millionaire was nominated for 10 Academy awards in 2009 and won eight, the most for any film of 2008, including Best picture, Best director, and best adapted screenplay. It also won seven BAFTA Awards (including Best Film), five Critic's Choice Awards, and four Golden Globes.
The film was projected to cost US$15 million, so Celador sought a U.S. distributor to share costs. Fox Searchlight Pictures made an initial offer that was reportedly in the $2 million range, but Warner Independent Pictures made a $5 million offer to win rights to the picture.
Its budget was 15 million dollars.
